Getting Care

Appointments & Referrals

A referral is when your Primary Care Manager or provider sends you to another for specialty care.

To schedule an appointment with specialty care, contact the Integrated Referral Management and Appointment Center at 855-227-6331.

Note: Active duty service members need a referral for most care received outside the assigned military hospital or clinic.

Network providers

A pre-authorization is when your care is approved by the regional contractor before you go to your appointment. Your provider will give you a referral and pre-authorization at the same time.

To access the approval letter and details of the assigned provider, visit the Humana Beneficiary Self Service portal.

To change an assigned provider, visit  Humana Military - Find care to search for a new provider. Request a change at the Humana Military Beneficiary Self Service Portal

Note: You need to get care before the authorization expires. Expired referrals must be re-approved.

For further assistance, contact the Benefits Counselor at 240-612-2202.

Right of First Refusal

The Integrated Referral Management and Appointment Center will first refer you to a military hospital or clinic. If local military treatment facilities are unable to provide the authorized specialty care, you’ll then get a referral to a network provider.
